MCAL Utilization

This page provides details about Gbackup's MCAL utilization for a backup server. It shows details on total MCAL licenses added to the server, MCALs used up and the balance MCAL licenses left.

Add MCALs

MCALs are monthly client licensing units that are added in the backup server and the client machines consume the MCALs on monthly from the backup server as they backup to the server. From this page you can add/update your MCAL credits in the Gbackup backup server.

Licence Management

In Gbackup, all the client licensing are handled in the Backup Server. Gbackup server uses a unit called MCAL to manage the licensing of clients backing up to the Gbackup Server.

Known Issues

Sometimes while doing restore, the skipped files from backups are also listed for restore. The restore reports may therefore show that the restore was partially completed as it could not find the skipped files in the backup server

3.5 Release Notes

Synthetic Full Backup of Files: During incremental backup schedules, Gbackup client automatically runs a Synthetic Full Backup of a file if its backed up version file is larger than a certain percentage of its initial full backup.

Limitations

If you are currently running v3.2 in your client machines and if you are backing up MySQL Database Server, then after migrating the client to v3.5, the Gbackup Client will backup it up as new data. This is applicable only to v3.2 clients and not for v3.1 clients.

Migrating from version 3.1 / 3.2 to 3.5

You can install Gbackup v3.5 on top of the existing version 3.1/3.2 and Gbackup will automatically migrate to v3.5. Before migrating to v3.5, please make a note of the following instructions:

Windows

To install Gbackup client on Windows machines, follow the steps given below:

Client Side Bandwidth Throttling

Gbackup's Bandwidth Throttling feature enables the user to limit the bandwidth used by the backup process from the client machine. The client Bandwidth Throttling settings will be applied to each backup schedule configured in that client machine.

Installing and Configuring MySQL as Gbackup Backend Database on Linux

Gbackup now supports MySQL as a backend database to store all the clients' backup metadata information. Unlike Gbackup using SQLite embedded database as its backend database.

Integrating Gbackup with Autotask

Gbackup integrates with Autotask to create Service Tickets in Autotask when, for example,a backup or a restore fails in the Gbackup backup server.

Integrating Gbackup with ConnectWise PSA

Here are the steps to integrate Gbackup Backup Server with a ConnectWise site:

Setting Up MySQL on Windows as Gbackup Backend Database

Gbackup now supports MySQL as a backend database in Backup Server and Replication Server installations to store all the clients' backup metadata information.

System State Backup/Restore for Windows 2008

Unlike System State backup in older version of Windows (which uses NTBackup), System State backup in Windows 2008 is supported through a command line backup utility called WBAdmin.exe.
