Licence Management
In Gbackup, all the client licensing are handled in the Backup Server. Gbackup server uses a unit called MCAL to manage the licensing of clients backing up to the Gbackup Server.
What does this section contain ?
In the top menu, select: "Server Admin -> License Management"What is an MCAL ?
MCAL is short form for 'Monthly Client Access License'. MCAL ensures you can purchase as licenses as you need and pay as you go for licensing your clients using Gbackup.
MCALs were introduced to allow easier license management, especially when a client changes his operating system (from Desktop OS to Server OS or vice versa) or discontinues service for one of his installations. The backup server holds a 'bank' of MCALs and as clients connect to the backup server they use up MCALs from the server's bank - on a monthly basis. MCALs ensure that as long as your server has enough MCALs on it, you needn't spend time and effort worrying about client licensing.
